Indications:

Acyclovir is indicated for the treatment of acute herpes zoster or shingles. It is also used in the treatment of chickenpox and initial episodes and the management of recurrent episodes of genital herpes. This medication does not cure herpes, but relieves the pain and may make the infection clear faster

How to take:

As soon symptoms appear, begin medication immediately. Always take medication as directed by the physician. It is important to take the drug evenly spaced throughout the day and night to ensure constant blood level of the medication. For more detailed information please see label and consult specialist. Precautions:

When acyclovir is used in patients with renal impairment, adjust dosage properly. Also caution is exercised when administering the drug to patient using nephrotoxic agents since it may increase the risk of renal dysfunction. Maintain adequate hydration at all times.
